Good for beginners May 31, 2010
By J. Rivas This is definitely a reasonable yo-yo for absolute beginners to start with. It has the ease and accessibility of the Duncan Butterfly and Imperial, but will allow the thrower more room to grow then the later two yo-yos mentioned. If you are looking for a cheap, pretty durable, and great introductory yo-yo, this is for you.
PROS:
-Take apart design, a huge step up from the Imperial or Butterfly, and a great option for fixing tangled strings or allowing more advanced users to modify their yo-yo.
-Pretty light weight and durable. Its weight could be a con for some beginners since it has a somewhat fast response, but is great for practice.
-Decent spin times I have gotten upwards of 15-25 secs. on a good throw, allowing for me to perform basic to some intermediate tricks.
CONS:
-Although it has decent spin times, it does not match better yo-yos of its class, can become left in the dust when a thrower moves on to more advance tricks.
Overall this is a great yo-yo to begin with, especially for those just starting to wade the waters and are not sure about what they want. More advanced players will want to steer towards a better yo-yo with better spin times, or different shape.
4.5 out of 5 stars!

Great Yo-Yo Jul 22, 2010
By Diveman I'm an avid Amazon.com shopper and an adult who is re-learning yo-yos from when I was a kid.
A definite step-up from the Imperial or the Butterfly, this Mosquito Yo-Yo is fast, very smooth and has a pretty good spin. It has a very smooth action. If you're loading your shopping basket throw it in the basket and buy it here for $8, else it is $5 at your local discount store (to remain unnamed)...unless your wife sees you trying to slip it past her. :)

Yo, this is the one! Jan 09, 2008

I just got back into throwing a yo yo for my niece and nephews. My imperial broke so quickly that I had to run and get another to keep the kids happy. So I spent a little more and got the mosquito. This thing is great. It makes me glad I started again.
I great way to get back into it all.
Thanks Duncan!

Duncan Mosquito May 05, 2007
When I oredered this yo-yo, i expected it to be very good. Although I was still pleased with my purchase, I was disapointed with this yo-yo's sleep time. At best I can only get 10 seconds, usually only 8. This makes it hard to do the simplest of string tricks, like "rock the baby", let alone more challenging ones, like "atom bomb". Still, it is a good yo-yo. I love its smooth though sharp resonse. I suggest this yo-yo, but if you want long sleep times, try the Fast 201. However, the fast is a bad yo-yo for a begginer, because its high response will destroy your potential of tricks on lower response yo-yos, but the Mosquito is a perfect yo-yo for someone just starting out that doesn't need excellent perforamance.

Mosquito Yo-Yo is AWESOME! Sep 29, 2009
Pros: Long spin time, very durable (I have smashed it against the floor, the ceiling, and the wall several times, and it came out with barely a scratch), ball-bearing, mixture of classic and wing-("flared" shape), take-apart design. Cons: Spin time will decrease as string wears down, possible to lose parts of ball-bearing when you take apart the yo-yo, and when the friction stickers wear down, the Mosquito will be hard to bring back to your hand. Overall, an AWESOME yo-yo. I had a great experience with mine.
